The New Buzz Word in the world of "Industrial Rescue" is "Non-Committal Rescue". Basically speaking it is "NOT" committing anyone, or as few rescue personnel into the rescue environment as possible. This provides an extra margin of safety to the rescue situation.
It lives up to the idea of "Maximum Efficiency and simplicity, with a minimum of effort and equipment, while allowing for a reasonable safety margin". The fewer rescue personnel that dive into a situation, the less chance of complications and injuries. Non-Committal rescue devices should be considered in all rescue situations.
The SureClip provides a way to make this concept possible. With the proper training and equipment a single rescuer in many situations can rescue a fallen victim by themselves in a timely manner. While rescue teams are capable of decreasing rescue times significantly.
Think of drowning victim for a moment, they thrash around in the water exhausting their energy gasping for each breath of air. What would be the safest, quickest and most effective method of rescue, swimming out to the victim, rowing out in a boat, or throwing out a flotation device attached to a rope? Committal rescue would require a rescuer to swim out or row a boat to the victim potentially placing them in harms way. “Non-Committal” rescue would use the flotation device attached to the rope, this would not commit anyone to enter the water and the rescue time would be cut in half. By simply throwing a flotation device out to the victim and pulling them to safety via the rope, the rescuers are not placed in harms way and the rescue time is fast and efficient.
Now that we have talked about the different types of rescue lets talk about suspension trauma, or orthostatic intolerance. This is a natural human reaction to being upright and immobile, where blood pools in the legs leading to unconsciousness. It can be caused by suspension in a harness (deliberate or accidental), when trapped in a confined space, when secured to a vertical stretcher or litter - any situation where you are forced to stay upright without standing. If it is allowed to develop unchecked, it will be fatal.
